Yamabe & Horn Names Derek Lapsley as Vice President of Operations
We are proud to announce the promotion of Derek Lapsley to Vice President of Operations at Yamabe & Horn Engineering. Since joining Y&H in September 2018, Derek has been an invaluable leader, combining his technical expertise with a passion for improving systems and processes, all while championing the company’s values and people-first approach.

With extensive experience as a Project Manager and Design Engineer, Derek has led capital improvement projects for the cities of Kerman, Selma, Chowchilla, and the City of Dinuba where he served briefly as the Contract City Engineer. He has also been instrumental in enhancing Y&H’s project management systems, ensuring projects are efficiently executed while meeting client goals and timelines.
A Fresno State graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering, Derek’s focus on operational excellence and his ability to coordinate complex initiatives have directly contributed to Y&H’s success. His leadership philosophy prioritizes recognizing the value of every team member and fostering a healthy work-life balance, creating a stronger, more effective organization.
Outside of engineering, Derek’s background in design and photography brings a unique perspective to his leadership style – enriching both his professional work and his ability to connect with people.
