Senior Municipal Engineer (PE)

The Senior Municipal Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership, project oversight, and detailed coordination for a range of municipal public works and infrastructure projects. This role supports City Engineer(s) in the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering services for local public agencies, with a focus on developing into a leadership position as a designated contract City Engineer. This position will be instrumental in managing project deliverables, fostering client relationships, and contributing to departmental planning and execution.

Salary Range: $130,000-$170,000

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in managing municipal engineering projects, including street/roadway improvements, utility systems, and public facilities.
Serve as a liaison between the city and contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders, providing technical insight and guidance throughout project lifecycles.
Coordinate project activities with internal teams, city departments, and external agencies to ensure alignment with community needs and funding requirements.
Support the development and review of capital improvement programs (CIPs), including budget planning, prioritization, and implementation tracking.
Lead or assist in public presentations, council meetings, and community engagement efforts related to city infrastructure initiatives.
Manage project schedules and workloads, ensuring timely delivery and balanced resource allocation within the engineering team.
Progressively assume broader responsibility in city operations with the intent of transitioning into a contract City Engineer role, aligning with the company’s and city’s succession planning objectives.

Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California with good standing.
10+ years of civil engineering design and project management experience, focusing on residential development, commercial development, or municipal engineering projects.
Strong understanding of the project lifecycle, from concept development through final delivery.

Senior Municipal Engineer (PE) Questionnaire

Land Surveyor (LS)

The position as a Licensed Land Surveyor (Office-Based) is responsible for the technical oversight, workload management, and departmental leadership related to surveying deliverables in support of land development, municipal, and infrastructure projects. This role ensures that projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with Y&H’s operational standards. Responsibilities include close collaboration with field crews, engineers, and clients, along with proactive management of survey team resources and departmental objectives.

Salary Range: $100,000-$140,000

Key Responsibilities:

Direct the preparation of boundary, topographic, ALTA, subdivision, and construction surveys using data collected by field crews.
Review and sign final survey documents including Records of Survey, Corner Records, Parcel Maps, Final Maps, and Legal Descriptions.
Research and analyze deeds, easements, title reports, and other legal documents to support boundary determination and resolution.
Process field data and perform quality checks to ensure compliance with state and local standards.
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to clarify survey needs, provide technical insight, and support overall project goals.
Prepare and review scope, approach, and budgets for proposals related to survey services.
Oversee the organization and maintenance of survey project files and documentation for legal and archival purposes.
Manage department workload by tracking project schedules, assigning staff resources appropriately, and maintaining realistic timelines.
Lead regular departmental meetings to align on project priorities, timelines, and resource allocation.
Mentor and guide Assistant Surveyors in drafting, legal research, and survey calculations, supporting their technical development and project contributions.

Qualifications:

California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in good standing.

Salary Range: $60,000-$120,000

Key Responsibilities:

Develop civil engineering designs for municipal engineering projects, residential developments, commercial site developments, street improvements, and utility infrastructure under the guidance of a Civil Engineer.
Use AutoCAD Civil 3D software to create and modify designs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and surveyors to ensure successful project execution.
Prepare cost estimates, evaluate design options, and propose solutions to meet project goals.
Assist in producing and reviewing technical reports, design documents, and plans in compliance with regulations.

AutoCAD Civil 3D Technician/Drafter

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Drafter to join our team. This role is essential to the successful delivery of our civil engineering and land surveying projects. The Drafter will work closely with our talented team members to help bring each project to life, from concept through to completion. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience creating and editing engineering plans, subdivision maps, and other technical drawings within AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Salary Range: $50,000-$100,000

Key Responsibilities:

Develop new engineering and land surveying drawings using provided templates and standards.
Create, modify, and update detailed civil engineering design elements (grading, drainage, utilities, etc.).
Incorporate land surveying points and data into engineering plans.
Edit existing drawings according to redline instructions from project engineers and land surveyors.
Produce and plot accurate engineering drawings for review and final submission.
Ensure all work adheres to company and industry standards for quality and precision.
Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and the land surveying team to ensure timely and accurate project completion.

Qualifications:
